‘The ultrasound for me was everything’ – Brittany’s Story
Brittany says the ultrasound at CPC’s pregnancy medical clinics changed everything for her. “I saw the heartbeat… and I was like, I can’t take that away. … The ultrasound for me was everything.”
When Brittany first walked into CPC’s pregnancy medical clinics three years ago, pregnant with her second child, she was overwhelmed. “I was still nervous and scared and really didn’t know what I was going to do. I came in with the goal of abortion at first. I was going in there to see how to go about that process.”
Everything changed when she saw the ultrasound. “She was just a little bean—a tiny, tiny bean,” Brittany remembered. “I saw her heartbeat and I was like, oh, well, now I know I want to keep her… it doesn’t matter how it feels at this point. I’m going to keep her.”
After a difficult pregnancy, Brittany gave birth to her beautiful baby girl.
When she unexpectedly became pregnant again with her fourth child, she returned to CPC’s pregnancy medical clinics. “All of my pregnancies have been really emotionally lonely journeys,” she said. “I went in wanting to get an abortion.” But once again, the ultrasound shifted everything: “I saw his heartbeat—just a dot with a flicker… and I was like, I can’t take that away.”
CPC’s pregnancy medical clinics had a positive impact on Brittany. “Feeling like I had a place that I could go and talk to somebody, feeling like I had resources and information that I needed,” she said,
“but I would say the ultrasound for me was everything–being able to see the life.”
Her pregnancies also sparked a deep spiritual turning point. “CPC’s pregnancy medical clinics helped me on my path to finding God. If I hadn’t gotten pregnant, and if I hadn’t gone through with the pregnancies, I don’t think I would have had the awakening that I had.”
After giving birth to her youngest, she felt something shift inside her. “I kept feeling like something has to change. Something has to be done. Now I’m just in the stage where I’m like, whatever you want to do with me, Lord, I’m going to do it.”
Today, Brittany is raising her children with a focus on faith and compassion: “The most important thing for me to teach them is love. God’s love. Loving everybody. Helping others.” She has also launched a nonprofit with a mission to support foster children, people experiencing homelessness, and anyone who needs a place to belong.
Looking back, she sees a clear turning point. “If that wouldn’t have happened,” she said of her visits to CPC’s pregnancy medical clinics and her pregnancies, “then I probably would still be stuck.”
