God is moving!
“Sometimes, we’re the first person they’re telling that they’re pregnant. Sometimes, we’re the first person they’re voicing their thoughts on abortion to. It might even be the first time they’ve said it out loud—we can hear that in their voice.”
What Devin, the director of CPC’s call center, is describing illustrates the responsibility our call center specialists have in a woman’s journey to choosing LIFE.
The emotions expressed by women who call run the gamut—from anger, to excitement, to uncontrollable crying. And CPC’s frontline workers, a group of experienced, mature women, prayerfully receive every call as the first point of contact at CPC for a woman seeking help and hope in her personal crisis.
Expanding our capacity
At the beginning of 2024, CPC expanded its call center hours to accommodate the increase in volume of calls. “We would come in in the mornings and check the internet requests and phone calls that had come in overnight,” says Devin, “and we started documenting the data. Our desire is to be there when she’ll call, and so we wanted to extend those call center hours to make sure that we could be available for as many women as we can.”
Last year, the call center went from being open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. to being open from 7 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., six days a week, with a short shift on Sundays, which Devin says they’re looking to expand this year. The team also increased by one full- and one part-time staff member.
“I have an amazing team,” says Devin. “They are so dedicated. The extended hours came from their suggestions. That they would be willing to work later into the night and earlier into the morning just speaks to their passion for wanting patients to get an appointment and the help they need.”
The Lord does the work
CPC President Toby DeBause attributes the increase in the number of women we’ve served to two things. The first is the greater investment CPC has made to reaching women online through advertising, so that we stay at the top of a woman’s internet search—specifically, above the online abortion providers.
The second is CPC’s ability to provide women with a same-day appointment. Call center specialists answer every call with the intent to book a same-day appointment, says Devin. “We know, statistically, that if they get booked the same day, they’re much more likely to show up for their appointment.”
To make sure CPC has capacity to see more patients on the same day they call, we have also increased our medical staff and patient advocate staff, in addition to our facilities, like opening another exam room in Norfolk and a new pregnancy medical clinic in Portsmouth in 2023.
“God is moving!” exclaims Toby. “We are winning those life-and-death moments online. So many women came to us last year, we could hardly keep up! More babies were saved whose moms were at the highest risk of abortion.
People came to Jesus! So many lives were touched! None of this would be happening without God moving through the hearts of people.”
