The blessing of CPC’s clinics and parenting classes
LaThea thought it was a bad joke when she learned she was pregnant on April Fool’s Day, but her pregnancy became a blessing when she came across CPC and our parenting classes instead of an abortion facility.
When LaThea found out she was pregnant on April Fool’s Day with her third child, she said to herself, “This has got to be a joke.” The pregnancy was unexpected, and, for her, it wasn’t the right time. Googling abortion facilities, she came across CPC’s pregnancy medical clinics and made an appointment.
When she arrived, she had no idea what to expect and was surprised that the medical staff were interested in making sure she learned how far along she was.
After seeing the ultrasound, she received information about what abortion procedures entail. “They definitely informed me about stuff I didn’t know,” she remembers. It was learning about the negative impacts of abortion that caused LaThea to change her mind about pursuing one. “I just became more knowledgeable of what possibilities could have happened if I would have gone that route,” she says.
She was additionally surprised when she received an invitation to the Great Expectations Parenting Classes. “It literally could have just stopped there, with them saying, “OK, well, we don’t do that here, but here’s this information. … It went further.”
Even though LaThea was an experienced mom, she viewed the parenting classes as an opportunity to learn something new and a place to connect with others in a similar situation. She even became close friends with another mom, whom she’s still in contact with more than a year later.
She appreciated the diapers, wipes, and clothes she earned with Baby Bucks through class participation, as well as the baby shower held at the end. “I’m definitely still able to utilize the stuff that I got from them,” she says.
“It was by accident, but it was on purpose,” she adds, referring to attending the classes. “It was meant for me to come across that program. That’s not what I was looking for, but I came across it, so there was a reason.”
