Toby here… I just learned that the Virginia House of Delegates passed HJ1 (51-48) today to continue moving towards a constitutional amendment that would enshrine abortion for any reason up until the point of birth. Our laws already do not protect children in the womb. Now our General Assembly is attempting to take our commonwealth essentially to a point of no return and jeopardizing even more lives and hearts. We grieve this development and pray that the outcome of the Senate vote will derail this effort by pro-abortion extremists. Unfortunately, from the experts I talk to, the Senate is poised to pass this too. Please pray along with us that God would intervene to stop this. Please also consider calling your senator to ask them to vote “NO”!
Identify and connect with your legislator. Ask them to vote “NO” on this constitutional amendment!
Dear Friend,
Something is unfolding right now that threatens the lives of preborn children in a way that we may never recover from if it is allowed to happen. Viriginia’s General Assembly is moving forward on THE FIRST STEP to amend the Virginia Constitution to allow unlimited-to-birth abortion throughout our commonwealth.
If this FIRST STEP goes through, Virginia’s Constitution is on its way to being changed. Our constitution trumps statutory law that is already in effect and any that will ever be proposed in the future, and this means that unfettered abortion on demand would be permanently cemented into Virginia law.
If you have followed CPC at all, you know we are not a political organization. However, there are times when legislative matters weigh so heavily on the work that we do and the people we serve, that we cannot ignore it. This is one of those moments!
Right now, while there are some restrictions on abortion in the third trimester, Virginia’s laws don’t actually protect preborn children, even at that late stage of development. If this constitutional amendment were to be passed, even those few restrictions would be in jeopardy.
Also, our current laws mandate that parents be notified when their non-adult children are having an abortion. This constitutional amendment would jeopardize the current parental notification requirements and allow anyone of any age to get an abortion without parental consent.
As I shared in my last email, Virginia is already a pro-abortion state. This constitutional amendment will put whatever remaining restrictions we have in jeopardy and impede any future effort to offer any protection of children in the womb—even up to the moment of birth. Sadly, most of the country wants abortion to be legal, but this is unrestricted, unlimited-to-birth abortion. Truly, this is pro-abortion extremism.
From everything I have heard and read, the General Assembly will take this FIRST BIG STEP as soon as possible to make this constitutional amendment a reality, and our governor cannot veto this FIRST STEP if it passes in the House and Senate.
The General Assembly starts their session on Monday, so there is still time for you to reach out to your representatives in the General Assembly and ask them to vote “NO” on this constitutional amendment. Below, you will find a link to one of our pages where you can find out how to quickly identify your representatives and connect with them.
Proverbs 31:8 tells us to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. As you know, there is no way preborn children can speak for themselves. Let us come together and speak up for them in this critical moment.
Speaking up for LIFE with you,
